Defined Contribution Plans
Employer Contributions Only
Under a defined contribution plan, the employer agrees to contribute a specified amount to an employee's retirement account. The employer's obligation ends after making the required contribution, and the employee bears the investment risk.
Tip
Examples include many 401(k) retirement plans.
Summary
Defined contribution plans require employers to recognize only the required contribution as expense.
