Fair Value Hedges
Protecting Against Value Changes
A fair value hedge protects against changes in the fair value of recognized assets, liabilities, or firm commitments. Both the derivative and the hedged item are adjusted for changes in fair value attributable to the hedged risk, with gains and losses generally recognized in current earnings.
Summary
Fair value hedges recognize offsetting gains and losses in current earnings.
