Identifiable Intangible Assets
Separating Intangibles from Goodwill
Certain intangible assets must be recognized separately from goodwill if they are identifiable. An intangible asset is identifiable if it arises from contractual or legal rights or can be separated and sold independently.
Note
Only residual value after recognizing identifiable net assets becomes goodwill.
Summary
Identifiable intangible assets are recognized separately from goodwill at fair value.
