Settlement of Foreign Currency Transactions
Exchange Gains and Losses
Between the transaction date and settlement date, exchange rates may change. As a result, receivables or payables denominated in foreign currencies must be adjusted to current exchange rates, producing exchange gains or losses.
Note
Exchange gains and losses from foreign currency transactions are generally reported in net income.
Summary
Changes in exchange rates between transaction and settlement dates create realized or unrealized foreign exchange gains and losses.
