Journal Entries and Double-Entry Accounting
Recording Transactions
Transactions are first recorded in the general journal using the double-entry accounting system. Every transaction affects at least two accounts and maintains the accounting equation by ensuring that total debits always equal total credits.
Total Debits = Total Credits
Summary
Journal entries record every transaction while preserving the balance of the accounting equation.
