Internal Rate of Return (IRR)

Finding the Investment's Expected Return

The Internal Rate of Return is the discount rate that makes the Net Present Value of a project equal to zero. It represents the project's expected annual return.

Note
IRR is especially useful when managers prefer expressing investment performance as a percentage return.
Summary
Projects with IRRs exceeding the required rate of return generally create value.
